American Cancer Society seeks various volunteers for Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society seeks various types of volunteers to lend a helping hand for its annual Relay for Life event to support cancer research, education and patient and family services in Ocean County.

Different committees are now forming in many areas such as entertainment, games, food, prizes, etc. Volunteers are needed in areas such as registration, corporate participation, and team recruitment to name a few. Cancer survivors are asked to come out and join their community to celebrate life, inspire others and help kick off the local Relay For Life event by walking in the Survivor Lap.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration in which individuals and teams camp out, picnic, dance and take turns walking or running around a track ‘relay style’ to raise funds to fight cancer.

At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary candles around the track in a ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease. Relay For Life events will be held in Lakewood, Toms River and Manahawkin.

The next meeting of the Lakewood Relay For Life planning committee is slated for Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park, the second floor conference room, 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood.

Any resident who would like to volunteer or find out how to build a team for any of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events, call 1-800-ACS-2345.
