‘School Board Candidate Kits’ now available

The deadline for filing nominating petitions to appear on the ballot for the 2003 annual school election is Feb. 24, with the election scheduled for April 15.

The New Jersey School Boards Association urges residents interested in education to consider school board candidacy, and has produced a "School Board Candidate Kit" for interested residents.

The kit includes information on the requirements for school board candidacy, a calendar of important dates in the school election process, and a sample nominating petition. It also provides information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act.

Kits are available at local Board of Education offices or by calling the New Jersey School Boards Association at (609) 278-5202.

Vegetarian education

The Department of Continuing and Professional Education at Ocean County College, Toms River, is offering "Beyond Salad: An Introduction to Vegetarianism" on Feb. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors are invited to learn why people choose a vegetarian lifestyle and sample vegetarian dishes.
