Model railroaders pay return visit to museum
The Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders will return to the Ocean County Historical Society’s Museum, 26 Hadley Ave., Toms River, on Presidents Day weekend for train buffs of all ages to enjoy. The Birdsall Room will be filled with several layouts of operating model railroads, and members will be on hand to answer questions about railroading. Films and slides about trains will also be presented. The display will run from 1-4 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 17. Music program slated for Shore area adults Jersey Coast Sounds, a new adults-only group forming in Brick, is inviting local adults from the area to participate in various musical and performing arts activities. The goal of the program is to reintroduce former musicians to music as well as to give adults who have always wanted to learn an instrument a place to go. According to the press release, many adults who played instruments or participated in chorus during their high school years now have a chance to dust off their old instruments and vocal chords and perform once again, along with others. just for the fun of it. Ensembles are forming for brass, woodwinds, string, vocal and percussion in styles ranging from jazz and big band to pop and rock. The first meeting will be on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at Brick Township High School, 346 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick. Anyone 18 and over is welcome. For more details, call (732) 920-5257, evenings. Brick Explorers to host spaghetti dinner Feb. 22 The Brick Fire/EMS Explorer Post will be sponsoring a spaghetti dinner Feb. 22, 5-8 p.m., at the Herbertsville Fire Company building, 601 Herbertsville Road, Brick. The Fire/EMS Explorer Post is a young adult training organization sponsored by the Joint Board of Fire Commissioners of Brick. The goal is to help establish an interest in and train young adults in the skills of fighting fires and saving lives, with the intent of the Explorers becoming members of one of the fire companies or first aid squads within the township. This post is open to any young adult age 14 (in the ninth grade) to 21 who lives in northern Ocean and southern Monmouth counties. For information, call (732) 899-0779. Auditions for talent showcase Feb. 24-25 The Brick Community Players will hold auditions for its annual talent showcase on Feb. 24 and 25, 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Veterans Elementary School, 103 Hendrickson Road, Brick. The showcase will be presented in March. Producer Ada Cole is looking for singers, dancers, comedy and magic acts, musicians and other performing artists.
