Baseball instruction offered — Marc Kaplan, former Atlanta Braves scout, will be offering personalized baseball instruction to individuals, groups and teams. Prior to joining the Braves organization, Kaplan coached at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., New England College, and Hillside High School. Joining Kaplan will be Pat Saverino, current manager of the Brick Clippers. Saverino was a former Brick High School and Ocean County College, Toms River, standout player. He was invited by the Mets, Orioles and Tigers to their training camps. He was also offered the head coaching position at Ocean County College. Call (732) 477-9380 for rates and more information.

The Brick Municipal Alliance Committee’s (Brick-MAC) fourth annual Basketball Tournament will begin on Feb. 28 and end on March 10. The level of play offered for boys or girls are (boys) 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 14U; and (girls) fifth grade, fifth/sixth, seventh, seventh/eighth (age by 9/1/02). All teams are guaranteed three games; with bracket play in division (teams seeded for single elimination play).

For registration there is a suggested donation of $300. Please make checks payable to Brick-MAC and mail to Brick Recreation, 401 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick, NJ 08723. Attn: Athletic Dept. The Brick B-MAC competitive basketball league is open to all towns. The following divisions will be offered: Tuesday nights, 12U girls; Wednesday nights, 12U boys; and Thursday nights, 14U boys. Games are played at Brick middle schools (Vets or Lake Riviera). Game times are 6:30 p.m. or 7:45 p.m. League play begins March 18 and ends with playoffs the week of June 2. You must enter as a team to play. Suggested donation is $175. Teams play a 10-game season and playoffs. The league supplies clock and book personnel. Officials, paid at the gym, cost $30 per team. Officials are I.A.B.O.-sanctioned. Teams receive a sponsor award and participant shirts at the end of the season.
