Natalie Trainor and Danielle Reilly turned in spirited performances in the balance beam to lead a respectable showing by the Brick Township team in the Shore Conference gymnastics championships at Brick Memorial on Saturday.

With the Dragons as the first team competing in the beam that day, Trainor, a senior, received an 8.5 score, and Reilly, a freshman, got a season high 8.375.

Jenna Philpot, a freshman, powered her way to a masterful 9.0 score in the vault, just short of placing for points, after she struggled in some other events.

"Overall, I thought it was one of our better Shore Conferences," said coach Barbara Floyd, whose team last week finished an 11-1 season in dual meets. "As a team, they did well."

Brick Township returns to action Saturday in the state sectionals at Southern Regional.

The top five in each event advance to the state championships the following weekend at Rutgers University.
