Football team to hold Chinese auction

Brick Memorial’s football team, still on a high over its NJSIAA Group IV, Central Jersey championship, will hold an awards dinner at the Ramada Inn on Route 70 on Feb. 8 at noon.

To help pay the tab, the team is sponsoring some fund-raising efforts, including a Chinese auction on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Peterson’s Marina Riviera Grill. Tickets are $25 and are on sale at Brick Memorial and at the door at Peterson’s. Chris Boyen of the Football Parents Club and football coach Fred Sprengel are setting up the auction.

"It’s going good," said Sprengel. "I talked to some people about getting money and fund raising; this is an easy way to do it because people can get together and walk away with stuff. The response has been good."

The team also is selling commemorative T-shirts at $10 each and is selling ads for a journal that will be distributed at the awards dinner.

Although Sprengel said the community still is buzzing about the glorious ending to the season, he says he and his staff "already are thinking about next year.

This (championship) can only have a positive effect. Winning is so contagious, and boys come out who did not play in the past," Sprengel said.
