Mayor’s use of township Web site improper

On Jan. 19 Mayor Joseph Scarpelli posted on the official township Web site, a Web site paid for by the taxpayers of Brick Township, a blatant political statement regarding an ordinance establishing a council vice president position. Mayor Scarpelli vehemently opposed this because of the fact that he believes that Councilman Acropolis would get another turn at being council president in the absence of current council president, Ruthanne Scaturro. Mayor Scarpelli is entitled to his opinion and this is not what this discussion is all about.

This discussion is about the misuse of government property for political purposes. Mayor Scarpelli should be legally reprimanded for doing so. This is not the only time that Mayor Scarpelli has misused government property. Many will remember the epiphany in the Dodge Durango when Mayor Scarpelli was using a township vehicle for personal use.

This letter will be sent to the Ocean County Prosecutor, the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Committee, and the State Attorney General for an opinion on whether or not Mayor Scarpelli has violated the rule of law of the State of New Jersey.
