      Household hazardous waste collection begins

Entering its 15th year, Ocean County’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program has resulted in almost 11 million pounds of potentially dangerous household products being disposed of properly.

This year’s spring disposal program will get under way May 3 with the first collection site in Stafford Township.

Materials accepted at the household hazardous waste collection sites are paints/thinners/boat paints, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides and herbicides, aerosol cans, auto products, toilet and drain cleaners, silver polishes, oven cleaners, photographic chemicals, rug and upholstery cleaners, polishes and bleaches, waste oil and used gasoline.

There are 3,000 appointments available for the spring collection and registration is required.

Local locations, dates and times for the spring program are: Jackson Township Public Works Garage, Don Connor Boulevard, noon-6 p.m., May 12; and Brick Township Public Works Garage, 836 Ridge Road, noon-6 p.m., May 14. Call (732) 367-0802 to register.
