      September programs and events at Brick Library

      The Brick Branch of the Ocean County Library, 301 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick, will be hosting the following programs during the month of September. All programs and events are free and require registration unless otherwise noted. Call the library at (732) 477-4513 to register.

      • Sept. 1, Friends of the Library meeting 10 a.m. New members are welcome. No registration is necessary.

      • Sept. 2, Elephant Appreciation Day 10:30 a.m. – children ages 3-5 will read elephant stories, dance an elephant dance and play elephant games.

      • Sept. 9, Wonderful Weirdo’s Day, 10:30 a.m. – children ages 3-5 will read wacky stories and make a craft. September Programs, Brick Branch

      • Sept. 11, The September 11th Project, 10 a.m. – teens and adults are welcome to attend a viewing of "9-11: Looking Back … Moving Forward," a short film documentary as seen through the eyes of the teens from Stuyvesant High School near Ground Zero in New York City, and outside New York in Tarrytown, N.Y. After the film, Brick teens will read original poetry and short essays.

      • Sept. 14, Fall Potential Screening for Seniors, 9-11 a.m. – falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries to older people in the United States. The screening, presented by Eric Spats, will include a short questionnaire and three easy exercises. The screening process is done within 15 minutes and there are no needles or medications administered.

      • Sept. 15, Muppets, Muppets Everywhere, 10:30 a.m. – children ages 3-5 will celebrate the Muppets with videos and a craft.

      • Sept. 15, Renter to Buyer Assistance Program, 7 p.m. – presented by Better Homes, VRI Realtors and Intercounty Mortgage.

      • Sept. 16, 10:30 a.m. (ages 3-5), and Sept. 28 3:30 p.m. (ages 6 and up), – Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month: Bilingual Story Time.

      • Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, SAT Night, 7-8:30 p.m.– attendance earns Brick Township High School students five points extra credit toward an English test grade. Space is limited to 25 people. Snacks provided. Contact the library or e-mail: brickteens@oceancounty.lib.nj.us.

      • Sept. 18, 2 p.m., "Freedom Bound: The Struggle for Civil Rights." "Freedom On My Mind: a Sixties Film and Discussion," is one of six-part film viewing, reading and discussion series called "The Sixties: America’s Decade of Crisis and Change." Ocean County Library was one of 25 libraries nationwide, selected out of 160 applicants to serve as a pilot for this grant program series. Both Brick and Manchester Branches will participate in these presentations.

      • Sept. 20, Mother/Daughter Book Club, 7-8:30 p.m. – for girls ages 10-14.

      • Sept. 21, Free blood pressure testing, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., provided by the Ocean County Health Department. No appointment necessary.

      • Sept. 21, "Crossword Puzzles: Exercises for the Mind," 7 p.m.

      • Sept. 23, Sidewalk Chalk Art, 4 p.m. – for children and their families.

      • Sept. 25, "Virago," 2 p.m., – concert by Amy Schindler and Maire Tashjian. Features acoustic guitar riffs accompanied by a variety of percussion instruments. Details: www.viragomusic.com.

      • Sept. 27, Teen Advisory Board, 7-8:30 p.m. – teens in grades 6-12 or the equiva­lent can earn community service points and help the library. Snacks are provided. For more information, e-mail: brickteens@oceancounty.lib.nj.us

      • Sept. 28, "We Got Issues," 7-8:30 p.m. – teen book discussion.

      • Sept. 29, "Starting Your Own Business: Learn the Basics," 6:45-8:45 p.m. – presented by Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE).

      The Brick Library’s Children’s Series Programs will host the following fall ses­sions:

      • Babies Rhyme Time – a 15-minute music rhyming program for babies not yet walking. Will be held Mondays Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 9:30 a.m.

      • Toddler Story Time – stories, finger plays and songs for toddlers ages 1-2. Will be held Mondays Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25 at 10:30 a.m. or Tuesdays Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 9:30 a.m.

      • Preschool Story Time, – stories and activities for preschoolers ages 3-5. Will be held Tuesdays Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, at 9:30 a.m. or Wednesdays Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10:30 a.m.
