Ocean Medical Center announced the appointment of Frank E. Machiaverna, M.D., FACS, to the position of vice president of medical affairs. Machiaverna joined the medical staff at Ocean Medical Center in 1985. He has been a member of the Medical Executive Committee for the past eight years where he has been either a chair or member at large. He has served as the chair, vice chair and secretary of the Department of Surgery a total of four terms. His long-standing history with the hospital led to his appointment as physician advisor for case management in December of 2002. Machiaverna has currently been in the role of acting vice president of medical affairs since June. He was also the school physician for Point Pleasant Boro High School for nine years. Machiaverna received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Temple University, Philadelphia, and earned his doctorate in medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School. He also attended the United States Naval Academy. He resides in Toms River with his wife, Lisa, and has three children. Ocean Medical center, a member of the Meridian Health Family, is a 241-bed nonprofit community hospital located in Brick.
The New Jersey School Public Relations Association (NJSPRA) is seeking new members. Membership is open to those who are involved with communications, publications and media relations in New Jersey public, parochial or private schools. The association hosts four professional workshops each school year and serves as a resource for school public relations practitioners. Recent workshops have covered varied subjects including crisis communications, press relations, budgets and bond referenda, Web site design and the No Child Left Behind Act. The group also provides tip sheets on various communications subjects and has knowledgeable people on call to provide professional advice on any communications subject.
