      Brick Memorial marching band competition Sept. 25

    • Brick Memorial High School Marching Mustang Band will serve as host for a marching band competition Sept. 25 as part of the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) competition festivities for 2004.
    • The event will feature marching bands and color guards performing for judges on the football field. The participating bands are categorized by group designations and compete against bands within their specific group. The total number of performers, which includes musicians and color guard, determines group designations.

      Trophies will be awarded at the end of the competition for first, second and third place in each group as well as special trophies including best music, best marching, best percussion and best color guard.

      The performances will begin at 5 p.m. on the Brick Memorial High School Football field, 2001 Chambers Bridge Road. Refreshments and raffles, along with flowers and candy for performers, will be available prior to the performances. All are welcome to attend. Details: (732) 458-6039 or (732) 840-1669.

      Third annual Ocean Golf Classic Sept. 30

      Clean Ocean Action (COA) will hold its third annual Ocean Golf Classic Sept. 30 at Rumson Country Club, 163 Rumson Road. Over 100 golfers from the local area, northern New Jersey, and New York are expected to participate in the event. For the second year, the New York Mercantile Exchange Charitable Foundation will sponsor the event. Teams from local beach clubs will also compete for the commemorative Ocean Golf Classic Trophy and a specially designed flag.

      A silent auction will be held during the reception.

      The entry fee is $325 per player, which includes a luncheon, use of driving range, greens fees, golf cart, on-course refreshments, cocktail reception with open bar, buffet dinner and awards presentation.

      The cocktail and dinner reception following the tournament is open to nongolfers as well. Reservations are $65 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
