Generosity saved Halloween festivities for Brick Challenger children

I wanted to shed some light on the letter written by Sharon Campos regarding the Halloween festivities held on Oct. 30 at the Havens Homestead. This celebration has been held there for quite a few years now for the Brick Challenger Children. This happened to fall on the same day as the Windward Beach Celebration.

This year’s celebration was almost canceled due to the budget cuts. However, the Brick Elks and the Sub Shack of Brick donated money to give Challenger their festival. Thank you to them and to Danny and Donny of Brick Recreation for always coming through for our kids. This had nothing to do with politics or competition between the two. On another note, thank you, Mayor [Joseph] Scarpelli, for once again attending our Challenger function. We know you had a busy day that day. And, Councilman [Stephen] Acropolis, we hope to see you again. I believe this was one of the very first Challenger functions you have attended since you took office.
