Board members
I was appalled to learn at the Board of Education meeting last night that Catherine Lindenbaum was the board member revealed for writing the e-mail requesting various members of the public to come to a Board of Education meeting and speak against the lacrosse program attempting to be formed for our high school students. The Brick Lacrosse Club is attempting to organize a high school team without any cost to the school district by raising the funds privately. Teacher and team coordinator Cindy Masefield spoke on behalf of the program at the Board of Education meeting, attempting to correct the misinformation quoted in Mrs. Lindenbaum’s e-mail. She went on to state that “the students need many things in the classroom. These things come first. That is why we are not asking for funding to be provided through the budget. If we cannot fully fund this program ourselves, it will not happen.” Furthermore, Mr. [Daniel] Woska and Mrs. Lindenbaum attended the last lacrosse game recently played by our high school seniors. A call from Mr. Woska was made to Dr. [Thomas] Seidenberger informing him of complaints made by neighbors in Birchwood Park due to the lateness of the game and the lights being on at that time. An attempt was made to find out who made these complaints in order to apologize. It was discovered that no complaints were received by the Brick Police Department or by Brick High School Principal Dennis Filippone. Again, false information given to discredit a program that our students enjoy — for what reason, “sour grapes” or “dirty politics”? In my opinion, Mr. Woska and Mrs. Lindenbaum, you were there to create problems for this program where none existed. Is it just a coincidence that the new board member, Dan Rosa, is the coach of that program? This is nothing more than deception at its best. Your efforts did not hurt Mr. Rosa. You hurt the student athletes who want to play this sport for their school. Mrs. Lindenbaum, I must ask you, how is this program different from the cheer dance program you are attempting to start at the high school? Would you like your fellow board members to sabotage your efforts? Somehow I don’t think they would. They are truly serving the Board of Education for the benefit of the children. Shame on you.
Sharon Campos Brick Three cheers for Relay For Life supporters For over 40 years, they came to Keller Memorial Football field at Brick Township High School to come and see the Winning Green Dragons, but on June 11, thousands of people came to the same field to help be a winner in stamping out one of the worst diseases — cancer. All those who came and helped support became winners, for it was the first Relay for Life, which raised money for the American Cancer Society. Brick Township and Brick Township High School were chosen this past winter as the site for Relay for Life. Back at this first meeting when over 300 people attended, you could feel Brick Township had a winner. The enthusiasm brought by Vieno Wurret, director of special events for the American Cancer Society, plus when you need a job done to the best it can be you need Leon Mowadia, of Brick Township. Wow, what a job Leon did and his committee, and a double wow to all those who raised the $163,000. When everybody said, for the first year anything raised over $50,000 would be great; can you see what Relay 2006 can do? I was so impressed that I felt I had to let the whole town know and let all know what everyone did. Three cheers for Brick Township, the Relay Committee and Relay for Life.
