The Lakewood BlueClaws and Ocean County YMCA are teaming up to offer basketball fans of all ages the chance to compete in the second annual “Jersey Shore Shootout,” 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The event will be held at FirstEnergy Park July 9 and 10.

Registration forms are available now by calling the Lakewood BlueClaws (732) 901-7000, or the Ocean County YMCA (732) 341-9622. Participants can also receive forms and other information by stopping at either location. Registration forms must be postmarked by June 17. Fans can also register online at www.macker.com by June 20.

As part of the partnership, the Ocean County YMCA will receive proceeds from each team’s entry fee. In addition, a portion of the proceeds also will benefit the Grand Slam We Care Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

The entry fee is $27 per player for a four-person team. Registration includes at least three games, an official tournament T-shirt, a ticket to a BlueClaws game and a ticket to the N.J. Nets 2005 home opener, a $35 value.

On Saturday, July 9, the Belmar Improvement Fund, in collaboration with the Jersey Shore Running Club, will present the 29th Annual Belmar Five Mile Run.

The 2005 Belmar Five Mile run is named in memory of long-time Belmar resident, Johnny Cobb. In addition to being an originator of the race, he had a 25-year career in the Belmar Police Department, and was a graduate and supporter of the St. Rose School, and promoted local sports all of his life. A portion of race proceeds will go towards a scholarship at St. Rose in memory of Johnny Cobb.

Along with the main Five Mile event, we offer a Fitness Walk and Kids’ Races scheduled for Friday night, July 8, both of which have continued to become more popular each of the last several years. All events will be held in Belmar, which is known, of course, for its beautiful beaches and boardwalk.

Registration is still available. Register through the mail, online or in-person Wednesday through Friday of race week–– July 6, 7 and 8, 6-8 p.m. For details, visit www.belmar5.com or call (732) 571- 2162.
