      BYC set to screen

      The Brick Youth Club (BYC) will show “Chicken Little” (rated PG) 7 p.m. at the Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road, on Friday, Jan. 13.

      Doors open at 6:50 p.m. Free popcorn and beverages will be available for all children.

      The movie is free but advance registration is required. Reservations for the movie will be accepted until the event fills.

      The automated reservation line is (732) 262-1074. BYC movies are open to Brick residents of all ages. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

      The first BYC DJ dance party of the new year, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6 from 7-9:30 p.m. is accepting registration, which is required and will close today. BYC dances are open to all middle school students who live in Brick Township.

      Monsignor Donovan H.S. students receive honors

      Nine seniors at Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River, have been named Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars for the year 2006-2007. Distinguished scholars are offered a renewable annual award of $1,000 without regard to financial need at any New Jersey college or university, public or private. These students are selected on the basis of class rank of one, two, or three in the graduating class and rank within the top 10 percent of the graduating class at the end of the junior year; or class rank within the top 10 percent of the graduating class at the end of the junior year with combined critical reading and math SAT scores of 1,260 or higher at the end of the junior year.

      Monsignor Donovan’s Distinguished Scholars are: Nicole Foderaro of Brick, Allison Kochis of Jackson, William Loundy of Seaside Heights, Ryan Hague and Amanda Holst, both of Toms River, Michael Notarnicola of Whiting, Melissa Romanus of Bayville, and Michael Kasper and Kimberley Maffei, both of Forked River.

      Winter movies shown at Cattus Island Park

      Cattus Island County Park, Toms River, will host its “Winter Movie Extravaganza” featuring a variety of classic movies, 7:30-9:30 p.m. through February. The movies will be shown in their original format on a large screen.

      “The Wild One” will be shown Jan. 13 and “The Third Man” will be shown Jan. 13.

      The program is free and open to individuals 8 years of age and older. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Families are encouraged to attend. Popcorn will be provided, but moviegoers may want to bring their own drinks. Preregistration is mandatory. Reasonable assistance and accommodations are available with prior notice.
