With many new talented players, Brick Memorial’s hockey team is going through some growing pains. The Mustangs slipped to 1-3-1 when they dropped a pair of games to Middletown North, 5-1, and Rumson, 3-2, early last week. Chris James, quarterback of the football team that reached the NJSIAA Central Jersey championship game, recently rejoined the hockey team and scored the goal against Middletown North to pull Brick Memorial to 2-1. Against Rumson, goals by Brad Person, off passes from Frank Ryan and Brett Ekert in the first period, and Tom Brow, off a pass from Chernosky in the second period, tied it at 2-2 before Rumson, which had an early 2-0 lead, scored the game-winner in the third period. “The big thing is our freshman contingent,” said coach Chip Bruce, who also said that junior center Anthony Santangelo is a “big surprise.”
