Summer theater youth camp workshop at Strand

The Strand Theater, Lakewood, will host a summer theater youth camp workshop for ages 8 to 16. The workshop will meet Monday through Friday, July 18-29, from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $340 for the two-week instructional period.

The workshop will be taught by professional accredited teachers, experienced actors and directors, and professional theater staff. Students will get to know their way around a professional theater and study essential musical-theater skills including acting, singing, movement, auditioning, improvisation and dance.

Additionally, children will be allowed to attend the Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp the following week (Aug. 1-5 from 9 a.m. to noon) free of charge along with the Lakewood Public School summer program, which will also be involved. The one-week program will encompass a performance directed and produced by the acclaimed Missoula Children’s Theatre Company, the largest touring children’s theater program in the United States. All students enrolled in the program will have a role or involvement in the production of “Rumpelstiltskin.” There will be two performances of “Rumpelstiltskin” — Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Registration forms for the camp and tickets for the performances are available now. Call (732) 367-7789 or visit the box office at 400 Clifton Ave., Lakewood, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Reserved seating is $5 for adults, and $3 for children and students. Enrollment will be limited to 50 students, so early registration is recommended.
