Cops: Car crash involved two drunken drivers

Sometimes, two out of three is bad.Two of the three drivers involved in a Saturday night crash were drunk, police said.

Clifford Wheeler, 52, of Brick was headed westbound on Princeton Avenue at 11:47 p.m. March 11 when he crossed over the double yellow line into the eastbound lane and crashed into Peter Pascale Jr., who was headed east on Princeton Avenue and was also drunk, police said.

The impact sent Pascale's vehicle off the road and into some trees on a residential property, police said.

Wheeler then continued across the yellow line and hit a third driver, who had been traveling behind Pascale. Wheeler's vehicle became airborne, scraping the roof of the third driver's vehicle before landing near the rear of the car, according to police.

Wheeler received bruises and burns but refused medical attention, police said.

Police charged him with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to exhibit a driver's license, failure to exhibit registration and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Pascale was not injured. He was charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain a lane and reckless driving, police said.

The driver of the third vehicle sustained a scratch on his face, but he refused medical treatment.
