The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce has been awarding scholarships for continuing education for over 15 years. This year, thanks to the generosity of the firm Barlo & Associates Architects/Abatare Builders, the chamber will be awarding a scholarship to a student who is pursuing a career as an architect, engineer, interior designer or a career in one of the construction trades. Barlo's donation is in response to a special program the Educational Foundation implemented last year. Businesses were invited to donate money that would be awarded for industry-directed scholarships, in addition to the four $1,000 awards that the foundation would make. Paul Barlo, an active volunteer in many of the community's charitable organizations, and a member of the foundation's Board of Directors, immediately donated funds to get the new program rolling, according to Michele Eventoff, executive director of the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce. In addition to last year's donation, Eventoff said that Barlo once again made a $1,000 commitment for the current year. The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation, Inc. has awarded tens of thousands of dollars for students pursuing secondary education in vocational as well as academic endeavors. The foundation is a qualified 501(C)(3) and accepts donations in any amount. For information about the different ways to donate to the foundation, or for information on donating money to be awarded to a student pursuing a career in a specific industry, contact (732) 477-4949. or www.brickchamber.com.
