Reader pans Bulletin for PLC 'cheap shot'

A recent article in your newspaper inappropriately linked our Primary Learning Center with strip malls and nightclubs ("Strip-mall hot spot puts Brick on nightclub map," June 29) when a reporter wrote, "In a town where even its kindergarten is housed in a strip mall, it makes sense that Brick's only nightclub can be found in one, too."

A newspaper that prints week-old news should exercise some restraint before taking cheap shots at our public schools.

While the school is located on a former strip mall site, the acquisition of that property was a win-win situation for both the township and the Board of Education.

Ten years ago, the site was entirely retrofitted as a learning center modeled after the early childhood programs of Reggio Emilia in Italy. The project transformed a community eyesore into a state-of-the-art school that we can all be proud of. Our Primary Learning Center has been visited by educators from various communities in our state, the nation and even foreign countries.

After you have finished visiting the "nightclubs" in our town, perhaps you should tour our fine school system and interview their dedicated staffs. May I suggest you start with the Primary Learning Center.
