Temporary library cards available for visitors

Nonresidents who call Ocean County home during the year, including summer visitors, can purchase a temporary library card. The card costs $5 for a one-month period and can be renewed, according to Supervising Library Assistant Dee Payne, Toms River.

The 20 branches of the Ocean County Library system offer patrons books, videos, music CDs, and access to computers and the Internet. The library system also offers from-home access to electronic information systems. Those online resources require a valid library account number.

Ocean County residents or business owners whose business is located in Ocean County can obtain a free library card from any of the branches. Card seekers will have to show proof of residency. Children can apply for a library card but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with proof of residence. Young adults between the ages of 13 and 17 can apply on their own for a library card but must have either a school identification card or proof of residency.

Ocean County residents can apply for a card online at www.oceancountylibrary.org. The library will process the application and mail the card. When the person initially uses the new card, he or she will have to provide proof of residency.

The main branch of the Ocean County Library is located at 101 Washington St. in downtown Toms River. Details: www.oceancountylibrary.org or (732) 349-6200.
