Public invited to forum on electronic voting machines

The mission of the League of Women Voters of Ocean County is to register and encourage citizens to vote. Our democracy cannot exist without the active participation of its people nor can it survive if the accuracy of those votes is not guaranteed.

With the introduction of electronic voting machines and the extremely close and questionable election results over the past several years, voting system security has become a major concern.

All technologies are vulnerable to attack. Electronic voting machines in particular must be scrutinized to identify possible threats and then the best possible security precautions must be implemented, including a paper trail, audits and a clear and transparent process to handle discrepancies should they arise.

The League of Women Voters of Ocean County has invited Congressmen Chris Smith and Rush Holt and the Ocean County Board of Elections to discuss current legislation and actions being taken to insure Ocean County citizens that their vote not only counts but also will be counted accurately.

Members of the public are invited to this League meeting on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berkeley Branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville NJ.

      Gail Marsh Saxer,

      president

      League of Women Voters

      of Ocean County
