Kids Day Out at Windward Beach Oct. 7
A Kids Day Out, sponsored by Brick Recreation and the Brick Municipal Alliance will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7. at Windward Beach Park, Princeton Ave., Brick. Kids Day Out is part of the Brick Township Police Athletic League's annual Halloween Celebration and Parade. Kids Day Out activities will run similar to the Annual Kids Night Out Celebration which takes place in August, but was canceled this year due to extreme heat. Kids Day Out portion of the day will run from 10 a.m. to noon and will include various township businesses, youth organizations, youth sports leagues and performing groups. The event will feature performances from the following: Jazzercise, Ashle & Co., Steppin' Up Dance Studios, the Brick Children's Community Theater, Kidz-4-Kidz, Parents for the Arts, Kum Sung Karate School, China Hand Kung Fu Academy, Academy of Dance, and individual performers of Kayla Bogan, Lindsay Murphy, Kayla Calabrese and Kaitlyn Dibenedetto. Also participating between 10 a.m. and noon will be the following: the Brick Municipal Alliance Committee (B-MAC), Brick Recreation, the Police Athletic League (PAL), Brick Bureau of Fire Safety with a fire truck and Sparky the Fire Dog mascot, the Brick library, Optimist International of Brick, Providence House, Ocean's Harbor House, American Cancer Society, Sierra Club, Brick Township Girl Scouts, Jersey Shore Boy Scouts, Brick Lacrosse Club, David Seme with Barrier Ball, Brick Chamber of Commerce, Baby Palace-Forever Kids, Braces at Brick with free tooth prints, Commerce Bank mascot, Party Pizazz, Washington Mutual Bank, Brick Community Players, Brick Community Fellowship and Brick Police with their DARE car. In addition to entertainment, there will be giveaways, activities and prizes for attendees. Reservations and sponsorship opportunities are now available for the Guild of Ocean Medical Center's third annual Friends of the Bay gala to benefit the Oncology Navigator program and the new Chest Pain Center at Ocean Medical Center. The Oncology Navigator program lends comfort and support to cancer patients at Ocean Medical Center. The program guides patients from diagnosis to recovery, supporting them and helping them work through challenges such as family and job responsibilities. The program, which is funded solely by Ocean Medical Center and grants, offers coping skills necessary to navigate through this very difficult time in a patient's life. The recently accredited Chest Pain Center ensures that through the Emergency Department, Ocean Medical Center can efficiently offer aggressive and preventive treatment plans to patients with acute coronary syndromes. This year's event will be held Oct. 15 at the Bay Head Yacht Club from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $75, and sponsorship levels vary. The gala will feature live and silent auctions as well as a 50/50 raffle. The event will honor five local mayors for their support of Ocean Medical Center. The honorees are: Mayor Arthur P. Petracco of Bay Head, Mayor Joseph C. Scarpelli of Brick, Mayor William Dunbar III of Mantoloking, Mayor Martin C. Konkus of Point Pleasant, and Mayor Thomas S. Vogel of Point Pleasant Borough. In addition to the festivities, this year's event will also feature both live and silent auctions. Among the items being offered for bid is a trip to Aruba, valued at over $5,000. Physicians representing both the oncology and cardiology departments will also be honored. Among those receiving special recognition are physicians who work with Ocean Medical Center's oncology team: William Lerner, M.D., Nathan Kaufman, M.D., Suzanne Steelman, M.D., David Yazdan, M.D., Tony Chu, M.D., Richard M. Guzewicz, M.D., James Rotolo, M.D., and R. Lance Dillon, M.D. The evening will also honor the following cardiologists: Philip Infantolino, M.D., Vincent J. Vivona, D.O., Ali R. The Brick Township High School Marching Dragon Band will be hosting its 12th annual high school marching band competition, "MusicFest 2006!" Oct. 14 at Brick High School's Keller Field, 346 Chambers Bridge Road. "MusicFest 2006!" is sponsored by Atlantic Powersports, 545 Mantoloking Road, Brick. High schools scheduled to compete in US Scholastic Band Association competition are: Brick Memorial, Buena Regional, Cumberland Regional, Freehold Borough, Howell Township, Jackson, Long Branch, Manalapan, Manchester Township, Monmouth Regional, Overbrook, Point Pleasant Borough, Toms River East, Toms River North, and Woodbury. The Brick Township High School Marching Dragons will perform in exhibition. As a special treat for the audience and students Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights will perform in exhibition. Jersey Shore Democracy for America sponsors a free screening of "Iraq for Sale," a documentary by Robert Greenwald, the producer of "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" and "Outfoxed." "Iraq for Sale" will be shown at the Brick branch of the Ocean County Library, 301 Chambers Bridge Road, at 7 p.m. Oct. 9. The film takes viewers inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. The film also uncovers connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who let it happen. The public is welcome. Democracy for America is a political action committee inspired by Howard Dean's presidential campaign. Historical Society trip to the Amish Country The Brick Township Historical Society is sponsoring a trip to the Amish Country Oct. 7. The cost is $55 per person and includes a smorgasbord at Shady Maple, a two hour guided tour of the farmlands and four stops for shopping, plus gratuity for the driver.
