Janice A. Manganello Mrs. Manganello, 63, of Manalapan, died Oct. 4 at Rahway Hospital, Rahway. Born and raised in Brick, she had lived in Jersey City before moving to Manalapan 24 years ago. She was a secretary for the S.G.S. Communities construction company, Manalapan, for many years. She was also a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Anthony Sr.; a son, Anthony Jr. of Manalapan; three brothers, Charles, Hoppy and Paul Sherman, all of Brick; and three sisters, Tracy Sherman of West Virginia, and Judy and Gay Sherman, both of Brick. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Doris Bearmore Bathgate Mrs. Bathgate, 89, died Sept. 8 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in the Adelphia section of Howell Township, on April 18, 1917, she was the daughter of Addie Southard Bearmore and Millard Fillmore Bearmore. She had lived in Howell for 69 years before moving to Lakewood 20 years ago. She was a member and former president of the Howell Township PTA; a former Howell Republican committeewoman; and a member of Bethesda Methodist Church, Adelphia. She also held various volunteer positions within the community, which included working Thursday afternoon bingo at Leisure Village and volunteering at the Paul Kimball thrift shop at Kimball Medical Center. In addition, she was a member of the Italian-American Club at Leisure Village. Mrs. Bathgate was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Bill" E. Bathgate in 1968, as well as a brother, Stacy Bearmore, and two sisters, Vivian Bearmore and Marie Bearmore Korski. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence E. Bathgate II of Bay Head, and Colin Lee and Tyonja Bathgate of Frederick, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Doris and Mark Husik of Bayville; two sisters-in-law, Marion Bearmore of Brick and Vera Bathgate Marquardt of Freehold; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Adelphia. Memorial donations may be made to the Ocean County College Foundation, College Drive, Toms River 08753; or the Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River 08731.
Thomas A. Chevalier Mr. Chevalier, 86, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Sept. 21 at Care One at King James, Middletown. Born in Newark, he resided in Atlantic Highlands, and Verona, prior to moving to Port Monmouth 60 years ago. He was a transportation supervisor at Earle Weapons Station, Colts Neck, for 36 years, retiring in 1977. He was also a mechanic at Seats and Roebuck, Middletown; bus driver at Blue and White Bus Company, Leonardo section of Middletown; and Police Special for Middletown Township Police Department. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was a life member of Port Monmouth First Aid Squad, member of the Middletown Elks Lodge No. 2179, Belford section of Middletown, and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 88, Middletown. He also coached Pop Warner Football for the Middletown Eagles. He was predeceased by two brothers, James in 2005, and David in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Madeline G. Jensen Chevalier; four sons, Thomas Chevalier of Port Monmouth, Richard Chevalier of Highlands, Harry Chevalier of Ocean Gate, and Michael Chevalier of Forked River; a daughter, Lesly Chevalier of Brick; three sisters, Frances Minton of Red Bank, Dolores Chevalier of Florida, and Mary Hauck of Shrewsbury; a brother, Robert Chevalier of Whiting; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Church. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
