Dr. Nathan Kaufman was recently honored with the prestigious distinction of "Top Doc" in NJ Monthly magazine's special issue that is dedicated to recognizing exemplary physicians. Nominated by colleagues and physicians throughout the state and country, those selected are featured prominently in the annual "Top Doc" issue. Kaufman was the only radiation oncologist in Ocean and Monmouth counties to be selected As the chairman of radiation oncology, Kaufman has been at the forefront of developing Meridian Health's world-class radiation oncology departments at three of the system's hospitals: Ocean Medical Center, Brick; Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune; and Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Through active participation in clinical trials and research, Dr. Kaufman's radiation oncology departments ensure that patients are offered cutting-edge cancer treatments without traveling out of state or far from home. Dr. Kaufman graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical School in New York City, where he attained his board certification. He has held leadership positions at major cancer centers, serving as chairman of radiation oncology at Sinai Hospital in Michigan and as clinical chief of radiation oncology at Karmanos Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. He's received recognition as a fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology. Kaufman is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology, and KyberKnife Society.
The Brick Chamber of Commerce will hold its 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration and installation of the 2007 officers and board of directors Dec. 7 at the Crystal Point Yacht Club, 3900 River Road, Point Pleasant. The celebration will feature a multimedia presentation and all guests will receive a keepsake gift. The cost of $50 per person will include an open bar cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and celebration at 7 p.m. There is also a limited number of advertising spaces available in a special commemorative journal that will be given to all attendees. The Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources (JSAHR) will present "Gaining Cultural Fluency: Working with People from Different Cultures" 8-10 a.m. Dec. 14 at Branches, Monmouth Road, West Long Branch. The registration fee and a full buffet breakfast is $25 for JSAHR members, $35 for nonmembers, and an additional $5 for walk-ins. Dr. Stevi Lischin, a specialist in intercultural collaboration, will speak about the subtle influence of cultural backgrounds in the workplace, the barriers to intercultural communication, variations among cultures, and how to make the best use of cultural similarities and differences in the workplace. Lischin, a 15-year graduate school professor with international experience, co-founded The Project for Intercultural Development, a company that assists people from different cultural backgrounds to increase their abilities.
Target, 570 Route 70 west, Brick, will host a "Holiday Helpers" event Dec. 5 from 8 to 10 a.m. Senior citizens age 65 and older and guests with disabilities will enjoy holiday shopping in a relaxed environment with personal shopping assistance, free gift wrapping and refreshments.
