School board meetings find permanent home at BTHS

BRICK - Residents who usually have to search for the next Board of Education meeting can stop looking.

The board will now consistently meet in the Brick Township High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. for its preagenda and regular public meetings beginning Aug. 24. The board's June and July meetings will be held in the school's library.

Board meeting attendees would sometimes have to guess where meetings would be held since they were inconsistently located at either Veterans Middle School, Veterans Elementary School or Lake Riviera Middle School.

"We received enough complaints," board President Sharon Kight said.

Since the board began taping its meetings, lighting and acoustics became a factor in meeting location, she said.

"It's not like we're doing this professionally," she said. "We don't have million-dollar equipment."

BTHS students record and produce board meetings for the school television station B20.

Lake Riviera's location also became a factor for people who did not want to drive across town to attend the meeting, she said.

Improved technology will allow meetings to be taped at Brick Township High School, which was chosen for its central location, Kight said.

Kight said she hopes the new, permanent location will encourage more residents to attend meetings.

Board of Education meeting dates and times can always be found on the school district's Web site at www.brickschools.
