Police Beat

All items in Police Beat are taken from police department records. All suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty in court.

An unlocked blue BMX bike was stolen from in front of a Fullerton Drive residence sometime between 8 p.m. Sept. 13 and 8 a.m. Sept. 14.

Police arrested and charged Christopher Gandolfo, 20, of Brick with hindering, failure to exhibit a driver's license, maintenance of lamps, driving with a suspended driver's license, view obstruction and failure to observe a signal at 8:20 p.m. Sept. 15. Gandolfo had originally lied and told police his name was Frank Gandolfo. He later called police and told them he misidentified himself because he was driving with a suspended driver's license. Christopher Gandolfo later visited the Brick Police Department where the two original charges against Frank Gandolfo, view obstruction and failure to observe a signal, were voided. Christopher Gandolfo received those two charges and four additional charges.

An unlocked bike was stolen from the back, doorless patio of a Tabetha Court residence some time between 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and 11 a.m. Sept. 16. A Huffy BMX bike with a flat tire was found nearby.

An unknown amount of quarters was stolen from Wal-Mart shopping carts around 2:30 p.m. Sept. 16 after a witness reported seeing three white females and one white male using bolt cutters to remove the keys from shopping carts, then using the keys to steal quarters from carts in the store's parking lot. The suspects drove away in a red Ford Escort.

Police arrested and charged Howard Muhlenbeck, 62, of Brick, with driving under the influence, reckless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle at 6:58 p.m. Sept. 16 on Cliff Road.

Police arrested and charged Joshua Prettyman, 28, of Brick, with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving and driving with an open container of alcohol at 12:43 a.m. Sept. 16 on Drum Point Road. Prettyman was driving west on Drum Point Road when he drove off the road, struck a utility pole and bounced back onto the westbound lane facing east. He told police he had been blinded by the lights of an oncoming car.

Police arrested and charged Thomas Walter, 23, of Toms River, with driving under the influence and reckless driving at 1 a.m. Sept. 17 on Route 70.

Police arrested and charged Christine Davidson, 18, of Brick, with driving under the influence, driving under the influence underage, refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer test, reckless driving, driving with an open container of alcohol, and driving beyond the permitted hours of operation with a provisional driver's license at 3:47 a.m. Sept. 17 on Route 88 near Route 70.

A wallet was stolen from the glove compartment of an unlocked vehicle parked in front of Aldi's on Van Zile Road some time between 2:45 and 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

A Duck Pond Lane resident reported a $200 skateboard was stolen from her front yard around midnight on Sept. 18. A neighbor told the resident she saw two white males, one with a crew cut and the other with blond, shoulder-length dreadlocks, carrying three skateboards while riding their bikes by the house.

A Suburban Road resident reported that someone used two large rocks to dent the passenger door and rear quarter panel of a vehicle parked in front of the house some time around 10 p.m. Sept. 18. A neighbor knocked on the resident's door after the incident to point out the two large rocks that were lying by the side of the car. The resident said his mother had heard a "bang" around the time of the incident but did not see anything suspicious when she looked outside.

A Laurelwood Drive resident reported a black Coach wallet was stolen from the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in the resident's garage some time between 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 9 a.m. Sept. 19. A repairman had been in the garage fixing a freezer around the time of the theft, which totaled $102 in cash, credit cards and the value of the wallet.

A 20th Avenue resident reported between $15.80 to $20 in change was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the resident's driveway some time between 11 p.m. Sept. 18 and 10 a.m. Sept. 19.

Someone attempted to break in to a Route 88 doctor's office some time between 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 19. A metal strip along the rear door of the building had been pried at, but entry into the building had not been gained.

A Robinhood Drive resident reported that someone had used a large concrete block to smash the windshield of a 1998 Dodge Ram parked on the street next to the residence some time between 10 p.m. Sept. 18 and 6:45 a.m. Sept. 19. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.

Someone slashed the front tire of a vehicle parked on River Park Drive some time between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 6:45 a.m. Sept. 19.

A white male in his mid teens was reported to have walked in to Visitation Church on Mantoloking Road, where he allegedly stole an unknown amount of church donation envelopes that were on display by the church altar between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 20. He was seen riding west on his bicycle on Mantoloking Road after the incident.

Police arrested and charged Justin Kovar, 24, of Howell, with driving under the influence, careless driving, reckless driving failure to report a motor vehicle accident, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to maintain a lane at 2:20 a.m. Sept. 21 on Jacqueline Avenue.

Police arrested and charged Damion Beeput, 26, of Asbury Park, with shoplifting and possession of an anti-shoplifting device at 6:26 p.m. Sept. 21 after police found him in the back of a stockroom in Comp USA in Brick Plaza. Police say Beeput fled the Sprint/Nextel store in the same plaza after stealing two cell phones from the store. His bail was set at $7,500. He was transported to the Ocean County jail.
