Obituaries Theodore "Tedd" F. Flanagan Jr. Mr. Flanagan, 89, of Brick, died Sept. 19 in Brick. A longtime resident of Kearny, he moved to Brick in 1999. He was a 1935 graduate of Kearny High School, and a 1940 graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange. A decorated World War II veteran, he served in the South Pacific from 1941-45. He was awarded battle stars for duty on the Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons and Leyte campaigns along with commendation medals for meritorious service. Most recently, he received the Distinguished Service Medal from the state of New Jersey for his service in ground combat during the Asiatic-Pacific theater of operations. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in October 1945 and spent the next 28 years working for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). During his career with the USPS, he served as vice president of the National Postal Union and past president of the New Jersey State and Kearny postal unions, as well as the New Jersey Federation of Post Office Clerks. He retired as the eastern region's manager of labor relations. Mr. Flanagan was an active worker for the civil rights movement in the 1960s. In addition, he was an usher at Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Arlington, Bergen County, for 50 years; past president of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus; a board member of the New Jersey Cerebral Palsy Association; and a member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Calo-Sass Post 4697. After retiring from the postal service, Mr. Flanagan began a new career as the purchasing agent for the Arace-McBride construction company. He was predeceased by a brother, George, and a grandson, Timothy. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Catherine Helen Mahoney Flanagan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Carolyn Flanagan of Dayton, Ohio, Kevin and Dianna Flanagan of Dallastown, Pa., and Brian and Janet Flanagan of the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence; a daughter, Susan Santos of Croydon, Pa.; a brother, Thomas Flanagan of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, also North Arlington. O'Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Gerard Gall Sr. Mr. Gall, 51, of Brick, died suddenly on Sept. 21 at home. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, he had resided there before moving to Brick 21 years ago. He had been employed as the facilities director for Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, Woodbridge, for 28 years. He was a communicant of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, Brick, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister, and was also a former co-president of the St. Dominic School PTA. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Epiphany Council 8160, Brick, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Perth Amboy. Mr. Gall was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna Mizerak Gall, and two brothers, Joseph Gall and the Rev. Florian Gall. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Gail (Connolly) Gall; a son, Gerard Gall Jr., at home; a daughter, Katherine Maria Gall, also at home; a sister, Lucille Gall of the Fords section of Woodbridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerome and Norine Gall of Perth Amboy, and Michael and Kathleen Gall of St. Marys, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at O'Brien Funeral Home, Brick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic Church. Interment took place at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Hopelawn section of Woodbridge.
