Board changes day of meetings

The Brick Board of Education will hold its preagenda and public meetings on Wednesdays for the remainder of the year, board President Sharon Kight said Monday.

Meetings were moved from Thursday evenings to Wednesday evenings to accommodate the work schedules of board members Daniel Rosa and Brian DeLuca. The day change took effect with the board's Sept. 20 public meeting, Kight said.

Rosa, a firefighter in Irvington, is required to take a series of continuing certification classes for his job. The classes are held on Thursdays. DeLuca, an executive at Merrill Lynch, works evenings and for the remainder of the year will be unavailable on Thursdays.

"We didn't want to put them in jeopardy of losing their seats," Kight said.

If a board member misses four consecutive meetings, he or she could be subject to dismissal from the board. Kight said she expects the board to switch back to its regular meeting day of Thursday in January.

Going forward, Kight also said that the meetings would be held in the Brick Township High School Library, instead of the school's auditorium.

Acoustics for videotaping in the library are better than the auditorium, she said.

The board's next public meeting is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
