Township establishes duck-hunting rules

The Township Council recently adopted an ordinance that established rules for waterfowl hunting within the township borders. The ordinance sets the area where hunting waterfowl is permitted as well as limits on the number of hunters and parking. The ordinance was crafted in cooperation with the New Jersey Waterfowlers Association.

Hunting for waterfowl will be permitted in the marshland area of the Metedeconk River east of the Route 70 Bridge near Forge Pond.

The ordinance establishes a limit of four hunters per day in the permitted areas. Anyone wishing to hunt for waterfowl must register with the Brick Township Police Department. There is a fee of $5 to register to cover administrative expenses. There is also a limit of four motor vehicles and boat trailers for the purpose of waterfowl hunting in the vicinity of the Glenwood Avenue boat ramp on any given day.

In addition to the approval of the New Jersey Waterfowlers Association, the ordinance was reviewed and approved by the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife. Hunters will be subjected to all state and federal laws and regulations that govern waterfowl hunting.
