Man killed in Burrsville Rd. crash
A 37-year-old Brick man died from injuries sustained during a Burrsville Road car accident Oct. 16 when the Mazda MPV he was driving was struck by a vehicle in the oncoming lane, police said.
Walter W. Schaumberg, 37, was headed northbound on Burrsville Road at 11:04 p.m. when a Volkswagen Cabriolet, driven by Nicole E. Donnelly, 18, of Brick, crossed from the southbound lane over the road's yellow line and into the northbound lane, striking Schaumberg's vehicle, police said.
The impact sent Schaumberg's vehicle counterclockwise onto the southbound roadside where it struck a tree.
The crash caused Donnelly's car to swing counterclockwise back into the northbound lane, where it came to rest by the side of the road near a utility pole, police said.
Police are not yet sure if the injuries Schaumberg sustained from the car crash caused his death or if he died after his car struck the tree, but "the impact with the tree wasn't significant," said Police Sgt. Donald Ling, who is investigating the crash with Officer Jeff Lindquist, of the police department's traffic safety unit.
Schaumberg was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Joseph E. Domanski of the Ocean County Medical Examiners Office.
Donnelly was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by MONOC Paramedics for a leg injury.
Charges against Donnelly are pending an ongoing investigation, Ling said.
