Local man injured in crash, witnesses sought BRICK TOWNSHIP - A local man suffered numerous injuries when he was struck by a car on Mantoloking Road near the intersection with Breton Road last week. Richard Palmer's right leg and right arm were broken in the Nov. 22 accident, which occurred at 6:58 p.m. Palmer, 59, also received numerous head lacerations, police said. Palmer was trying to cross Mantoloking Road from the southeast side of the roadway heading north to Breton Road. He was hit by a 1994 Mazda compact car driven by Janet Armato, 67, also of Brick, police said. Armato struck Palmer in the westbound lane of Mantoloking Road while attempting to stop, police said. Palmer came to rest on the northeast corner of the intersection with Breton Road. The car ended up in the westbound lane of Mantoloking Road, on the northwest side of the intersection with Breton Road, police said. The Brick Township Emergency Services Unit and MONOC paramedics responded. Palmer was stabilized and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Armato was uninjured, police said. Traffic on Mantoloking Road was detoured for about one hour. The crash is under investigation by patrolmen Jay Lampiasi and Jeffrey Lindquist of the township's Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Lampiasi at (732) 262-1141.
