      Green Dragons on the state playoff bubble
            BRICK - A year ago, Brick Memorial's hockey team knocked Brick Township out of qualifying for the NJSIAA Tournament, the first time the Green Dragons missed participating in the postseason, with only its second victory in the series.

      Youth hockey teams rolling right along
            While high school hockey is heading into the home stretch, four Brick Hockey Club teams are looking ahead to postseason play. Coach Alex DePalma's Midget Under 18 AA finished first in the state and play in the Mid-Atlantic regionals in Aston, Pa., Feb. 22, 24 and 25.

      MacCarrick is a busy man at Brick Memorial
            It's unusual to see someone coach through all three seasons in high school. But Don MacCarrick has done that and now will go one better. The head boys swim coach at Brick Memorial recently was elevated from assistant to head coach of the boys tennis team in the spring at the school. He also coaches cross country for Brick Memorial's boys and girls teams in the fall.

      Plenty of talent middle school level in Brick
            Young Shane Panuska of Veterans Memorial Middle School's wrestling team got the last word at home when he decisioned John Faulhaber of Lake Riviera, 7-0, in their 112-pound bout last Wednesday. But Shane's dad, Paul, got his own satisfaction as coach of Lake Riviera when it beat Veterans, 50-35, in an Ocean County Middle Schools inter-divisional meet at Lake Riviera last week.

      Sports Shorts
            The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring a Learn to Bowl program. The program serves as an introduction to bowling and on the lanes practice. It will be conducted on Fridays, March 9-30 at the Brunswick Lakewood Lanes on Route 9 and 70 in Lakewood from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The fee for each player is $10.
