      County parks dept offers dog obedience classes
            The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will sponsor basic dog obedience classes in conjunction with Unleashed Club for Dogs. The program will be held on Sundays from Feb. 18 through March 25, 11 a.m. to noon. Basic commands will be taught. Classes will be held at the Unleashed Club for Dogs, 951 Old Freehold Road, Toms River.

      Veterans Elementary School gift auction
            The Veterans Elementary School PTA will host a Super Gift Auction March 9 at Brick Memorial High School, 2001 Lanes Mill Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The cost to attend is $20 per person and includes dinner. The grand prize will be a $2,000 Visa gift card.       Marching band to host flea market and more
            The Brick Township Memorial High School Marching Band will host a flea market, refreshment and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 in the school's cafeteria at 2001 Lanes Mill Road, Brick.       Brick kids let the good times roll on Fun Bus
            Children ages 2-7 will have a chance to have fun on board The Fun Bus at Brick Recreation's Civic Plaza location at 270 Chambers Bridge Road in February and March. The Fun Bus is a full-sized air-conditioned and heated school bus whose seats have all been removed. The walls and floor have been carpeted and padded.

      Brick Township Police Dept. Drug Hotline
            The Brick Township Police Department provides a "Drug Hotline" for citizens to report drug-related activity. The hotline was established as a means of providing the public with the opportunity to anonymously report drug activities in their neighborhood. It is answered and monitored by detectives assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit. Messages are checked on a daily basis.

      Senior volunteers sought to aid special needs kids
            Family Friends is seeking senior volunteers in Ocean and Monmouth counties to provide support and assistance to children with special needs ages 12 and under and their families. Family Friends provides a unique opportunity for volunteers ages 55 and older to utilize their skills and personality to assist children with special needs and their families.

            "The 15-Minute Child Break," a free, interactive, one-hour presentation for parents, grandparents and caregivers who are concerned about children (of any age) and substance abuse, will be offered at the Brick library, 302 Chambers Bridge Road, March 21 at 7 p.m.

      'My Fair Lady' to be presented at Strand
            The Strand Theater Ensemble will perform the musical comedy "My Fair Lady," at the Strand Theatre on Clifton Avenue in Lakewood. Shows will take place March 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. and March 4 and 11 at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $25 per adult. Senior, child and student discounts apply.

      Recruits graduate Ocean County Police Academy
            For almost 24 weeks, 56 police recruits from across Ocean County were put through their paces in academics, physical fitness and marksmanship. The 56 successfully completed their time at the Ocean County Police Academy and were recognized during recent graduation ceremonies held at Georgian Court University, Lakewood. The keynote speaker was Ocean County Prosecutor Thomas F. Kelaher.

      Parks department offers baby fitness classes
            The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring Baby Fitness Classes at Dynamic Child Fitness Center, 5151 Brick Blvd., March 16. During the classes parents and caregivers will interact with the child and develop exercises to help with motor milestones.

      BlueClaws to host job fair Feb. 10
            The Lakewood BlueClaws will host a job fair Feb. 10 from 9:30 am. to 2 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park, in the BlueClaws Executive Conference Center located at 2 Stadium Way in Lakewood. Anyone interested in a part-time seasonal position on the game-day staff must come to the stadium to complete the application and interview process.

            Ocean County Clerk Carl W. Block recently announced that the Ocean County Clerk's Office collected a total of $60 million in recording revenue during 2006. The Ocean County Clerk's Office collected a record $74 million in recording revenue during 2005.

      Charity event features Mardi Gras theme
            The Brick Lions Club and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County will co-sponsor a Mardi Gras evening of Jazz. The event will take place Feb. 20, also known as "Fat Tuesday" and will also include desserts, and sweet treats. This "Sweet Charity" event will be held in the Sunset Ballroom at the Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant from 6-9 p.m.

            Strand Theater Ensemble will perform the comedy "Epic Proportions" for a dinner theater show Feb. 9, 10, 14, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 11 and 18 at 1 p.m.. at the Strand Theatre on Clifton Avenue in Lakewood. A buffet dinner will be served before the show.
