      Hahn takes second at indoor Meet of Champions
      Boyd nearly tops pb in the 400

            TOMS RIVER - Deanne Hahn has shown that she is driven to be the best. The Brick Township girls indoor track and field shot put star had finished second in the Meet of Champions but seemed as crestfallen as if she had finished out of a medal on Saturday.

      Mustangs' Perrine, Brodeur run well at MOC
            TOMS RIVER - Brick Memorial star runners Kristen Perrine and Andrew Brodeur ran indoor personal bests to medal in the Meet of Champions indoor track and field championships over the weekend. Perrine on Saturday clocked a 2:16.49 to finish in fourth place in the 800. Her previous best was a 2:18 run the previous weekend in the state group meet when she finished in fifth place.

      Local boys bowling teams finish another season among state's elite
            Brick Memorial and Brick Township boys bowling teams closed their outstanding seasons in a subdued mood in the NJSIAA championships at Carolier Lanes in East Brunswick early last week.

      Mustangs are sending two grapplers to A.C.
            TOMS RIVER - An emotional Karon Reid and Steve Santos, two juniors who often train together in the Brick Memorial wrestling room, advanced to the state finals for a second straight year along with Brick Township's John Battista. Reid is the first region champion from Brick Memorial since Mike Elshamy three years ago.

            Thirteen Brick Recreation Mat Rats wrestlers advanced out of regionals into the USA Junior Wrestling state finals that begin next weekend, led by weight class winners Dan Wojtaszek at 95 pounds Junior Division, Chris Casselli at 80 pounds Midget and Jake Scott at 80 pounds Bantam at Howell over the weekend.

            TOMS RIVER - Late Saturday morning at the Toms River East Ritacco Center, one of the final battles for survival in the consolation bracket of the Region VI wrestling tournament for a berth in the state championships had an all-Brick flavor.

            Armed with its first Shore Conference A South title and an 18-8 record, Brick Township's basketball season embarked on the NJSIAA Tournament with inspired confidence when they took the court early this week for its opener against Montgomery.

      Mustangs finally beat Panthers for the title
            Brick Memorial hockey goalie Mike Vincent said he doesn't like overtime or shoot-outs, "but I like shoot-outs a little better" between the two. The sophomore got thrown into the fire for both, including what is believed to be the first shootout in the school's history, as Brick Memorial beat Point Pleasant Borough, 6-5, for the Southern Blue Cup championship.

      Brick Hockey Club team reaches District finals
            Brick Hockey Club's 16 AA team is the last tournament qualifier still competing after sweeping through its three games in the Atlantic District tournament. Kevin Carmichael scored two goals, including the clincher for a 4-2 lead, as the Brick Hockey Club beat Haverford, Pa., 4-3, in the final game.

      Get out your gear, it's time to catch stripers
            Are you ready? March 1 marks opening day for striped bass season in the garden state. Local bait and tackle shops through the state are holding annual striped bass contests - contests such as "guess when and where the first bass will be landed." Other contests include some nice size gift certificates for the first and or largest fish taken for the day.

      CORRECTION
            In the Feb. 15 edition of the Brick Bulletin, an article incorrectly stated that when the Brick Township girls indoor track distance medley team beat Southern by running a time of 13:01 in the Ocean County Relay championships, Megan Schenk was part of that team, when in fact, it was freshman Chelsea Barreto who ran in place of Schenk, who has been injured.
