      Alvarez puts another fine season in books
      Earns second straight All-Conference nod at Monmouth
            Nichole Alvarez of Brick talks modestly about her season, but her skills were not lost on the Northeast Conference, which named the sophomore to the First Team All-Conference for the second straight year. "I did all right, better than last year," said Alvarez, a 20-year-old majoring in communications.

            Brick Memorial's softball team has reason for optimism for next season, after setting the tone with a strong finish. "It was good," said coach Vin Dallicardillo proudly, whose team loses only three seniors from a struggling season that was defined in the Ocean County Tournament, where it reached the semifinals.

            Practices for all-star teams got into full swing late last week as the younger and oldest teams at Brick National and Brick American prepared for tournaments that begin in the days ahead. Pitching depth is the main ingredient for most of the teams as they head into pool play in the hopes of advancing into single-elimination.

            The Jersey Shore Boca men's U23 team took the pitch June 19 under the lights at the John Patrick Sports Complex in Lakewood and routed the Middletown Celtic (N.J.) 7-0 in a mid-week Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) regular season game.

      Wolf set to tell story of Brick Twp. High School
            Warren Wolf is busily preparing for the 50th year celebration at Brick Township but it goes far beyond his own half-century tenure as the school's only football coach. "The boys and coaches are very excited about this being the 50th season. We want to make this a memorable one," said Wolf.
