      Justin Short, Brendan Melody and Justin Gordon, who played on the Brick American Junior All-Stars that won the state championship two years ago, are looking to do the same thing for the Brick American Seniors after helping that team to the District 18 championship on Sunday.

Lucchetti ready for his gridiron swan song

      F.J. Lucchetti thought he had a fitting end to his high school career when he helped Brick Township beat Brick Memorial in the Thanksgiving game. But Lucchetti has another game on his home field on Friday night when the Ocean County team plays Monmouth County in the annual Shore All-Star game at Brick Township. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Shoot for the Stars event set for July 29

      There will be prizes galore, souvenir items, autograph-signings and, most of all, an exciting hockey game between the leading high school players of Ocean and Monmouth counties later this month. The 10th annual Jim Dowd Foundation Shoot for the Stars benefit takes place Sunday, July 29, at 6 p.m. at the Red Bank Armory.

The players are Mariah Schiessl, Emily Andodide, Samantha Herkimer, Nicole DiFaglio, Ellen Lund, Jaclyn Trozzi, Sierra Culloo, Nicole Byrne, Jacely Valdora, Samantha Mandaro, Madeline Lacy, Taylor Dolan, Ashley Anderson and Gianna Tufaro. Brick National wins the title that got away

      After dropping an ideal opportunity to win the District 18 Junior baseball title a year ago, Brick National sealed the deal this time around. The team, managed by Brian Ashton with coach Bill Pett, lamented a year ago going into the championship round unbeaten and then dropping two games.
