      Mustangs Legion team wins a county title
      Falls to older, more experienced teams in state tourney
            The frustration of a five-win varsity season has become a distant memory for the Brick Memorial American Legion players. The team put it all together in the league playoffs, winning its first-ever Ocean County championship. "There are 340 teams in the state and we're one of 32 still playing. That's a success story in itself," said coach Rich Bishop afterward.

      Brick American falls to Freehold in sections
            Brick American's great post-season run that included its fourth District 18 title in six years was halted in the section championship game when Freehold held on to a 5-2 victory in Old Bridge. "We played well but Freehold is a hell of a team and we hung in there with them," said Brick American manager Joe Baatz. "The Freehold coach said he did not want to see them next year.

      Mets make it three in a row in Brick National
            The Mets won an unprecedented third straight Brick National Minor League championship under manager Jack Gelsleichter, but for a while, it looked scary. The team started off 5-0 and things looked pretty good for a team that lost five starters from last year's title team. But the Mets then went on a streak in the opposite direction, dropping five straight games.

      Picatagi keeping very busy this summer
            Andrew Picatagi has had an anything but relaxing summer from start to finish, but feels it will pay dividends for the upcoming high school basketball season for Brick Memorial. Picatagi on Sunday concluded a week-long team camp at Rutgers University, playing in seven games over the weekend.

      Graham expecting bigger role with Badgers
            After spending his first playing season getting accustomed to a new coach and seeing it end with nine straight victories last fall, Garrett Graham of Brick is ready for pre-season work that begins next week as a tight end on the University of Wisconsin's football team.

      Richardson takes over Mustang field hockey team
            Courtney Richardson had the opportunity to play women's lacrosse and field hockey on a Division I level while at Monmouth University. Now, she is looking to do the same thing at Brick Memorial after being named the new field hockey coach at last week's school board meeting. Richardson succeeds Kelly Engelbart.

            The Brick Hit-N-Runs 5/6 girls softball team won their division championship. The teammates were Shelly Applegate, Sandy Applegate, Katarina Bates, Katie Hule, Daniella Salerno, Kristianna Kawa, Nicholle Wright, Marissa Burns, Chelsea Byrne, Laura Graziano, Kristina Monti, Carly Wasco and Samantha Traiber. The girls were coached by Matt Wright and Chris Kawa.
