      Brick boys soccer teams going in different directions
      Twp. qualifies for Shore tourney; Memorial loses to close games last week
            Brick Township's boys soccer team plays its first Shore Conference Tournament game since 1998 on Friday, but it came with a dramatic twist. The Green Dragons avenged a 1-0 loss to Brick Memorial earlier in the season by reversing the score with the Mustangs. The outcome also figured in Brick Memorial missing the Shore Conference tourney for the first time in 12 years.

      Township wins, Memorial loses in football
            The first time Ray Johnson came to bat for Brick Township's baseball team as a sophomore, he belted a three-run homer in the early innings. So it was no shock that the senior again showed a flare for the dramatic when opportunity knocked for the first time for him on the football field.

      Brick Little League teams may cease to exist
      Both organizations may become part of growing Cal Ripken League
            Alongstanding "marriage" in Brick Township sports appears headed to an end. Brick American and Brick National Little Leagues are about to sever their relationship with Little League and will be playing in the Cal Ripken League beginning next spring.

      James becoming difference maker at TCNJ
      Sophomore QB has led Lions to a 5-1 record
            The College of New Jersey is the hottest team in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and Chris James is a major reason behind it. The sophomore quarterback from Brick, who broke into the starting lineup early in his freshman season, has commandeered the team to a 5-1 start, 3-0 in the NJAC, and a five-game win streak.

            Just as in past seasons at this time of year, the Brick Memorial's girls soccer team is rounding into postseason form. Ask coach Bill Caruso. And ask his rising star player of late - Alyssa Keating.

      Brick XC teams looking toward count championship race
            Ayear ago, Andrew Brodeur of Brick Memorial led a good contingent of cross-country runners from Brick township's two schools in the Shore Conference championships. They had earned that opportunity based on their performances in the Ocean County championships that take place again this Saturday at Ocean County Park.

      Bass season in full effect
            The weather has finally cooled off with a good amount of rain and temperature change. The wait is on anglers from Montauk Point to Barnegat Light who have had enough of the big chopper blues invading the surf and corralling the peanut bunkers into an all-you-can-eat buffet. Bass, bass, bass is the main focus. Striper action is slowly peeking its way into reports.
