      St. Dominic PTA to hold gala Nov. 16
            The St. Dominic PTA will hold its 26th annual fall auction Nov. 16 at the Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown. The theme of this year's event is "Castles in the Sand." Doors will open at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $40 per person and include admission, door prize ticket, and a fourcourse dinner.

      Brick church will serve Thanksgiving dinner
            A complimentary Thanksgiving dinner, sponsored by the Church of the Epiphany, 615 Thiele Road, Brick, will be offered at noon Nov. 22.       Senior volunteers sought to aid special needs kids
            Family Friends is seeking senior volunteers in Ocean and Monmouth counties to provide support and assistance to children with special needs ages 12 and under and their families. Family Friends provides a unique opportunity for volunteers ages 55 and older to utilize their skills and personality to assist children with special needs and their families.

      Substitute teacher program offered
            A three-day training seminar to prepare those interested in becoming substitute teachers will be offered from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at Ocean County College. To qualify, candidates must hold a minimum of 60 college credits.

            Ocean County College (OCC) is offering a number of bus trips to New York City: The Bronx Zoo's "Boo at the Zoo," Oct. 27, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; zoo shuttle, monorail, and special fall/Halloween activities. Cost: $89. New York Culinary Institute of America, Nov. 8, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; tour and fourcourse luncheon. Cost: $109.

      Animal shelter sponsors Atlantic City trip
            The Jersey Shore Animal Center will be sponsoring a bus trip to Atlantic City on Oct. 27. Tickets are $25 per person and include transportation to the Showboat and a casino cash-back voucher. Proceeds benefit the homeless animals in the shelter. The bus will depart at 12:45 p.m. from the Brick Municipal Building on Chambers Bridge Road.

      Brick Township Police Dept. Drug Hotline
            The Brick Township Police Department provides a "Drug Hotline" for citizens to report drug-related activity. The hotline was established as a means of providing the public with the opportunity to anonymously report drug activities in their neighborhood. It is answered and monitored by detectives assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit. Messages are checked on a daily basis.

      Event slated for home-based businesses
            The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a special "Meet and Greet" program for people whose businesses are based in their homes. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at The Artist's Café & Bagelry, 55 Brick Boulevard, and is designed as an informal networking opportunity for home-based businesses in Ocean County.

      'Trunk or treat' hosted by Brick Township
            Brick Township will host a community Halloween event at the Drum Point Sports Complex from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 30. Residents are invited to bring their cars to the complex, decorate them, then pop the trunk and have the children "trunk or treat" from car to car. There will be a hayride, pumpkin patch and costume parade.

      Brick Recreation to host bus trips
            The Brick Recreation Department will offer the following bus trips for all ages: A trip to the Peddler's Village Apple Festival in Buck's County, Pa., will take place Nov. 5. The bus will depart from Civic Plaza at 8 a.m. and return approximately 6 p.m. The $30 fee includes the bus fare only for a day of shopping and dining at your leisure.
