Veteran cops promoted after years of service

BRICK TOWNSHIP - Two longtime police officers were recently promoted at a Township Council meeting.

Sgt. Timothy Boyle was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He will take over the duties of shift commander on the first shift in the patrol division.

Boyle joined the police department in April 1993. He served in the patrol division and the detective bureau. Boyle was promoted to sergeant in August 2003. He was also a member of the Special Emergency Response Team for 10 years.

Patrolman Vincent Coburn was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He joined the department in September 1994 and has served on the third shift in the patrol division. Coburn is a member of the Special Emergency Response Team and the department's honor guard. He will take over as squad supervisor on the first shift in the patrol division.

The promotions were made following Lt. John O'Cone's retirement on Dec. 31. O'Cone retired after more than 27 years with the department. He served in the patrol division, the detective bureau and the Professional Services Unit.
