(Human resource students and professionals from Maine to Maryland will converge on Rutgers University's Livingston Campus, Piscataway, March 30 and 31 for the first-ever SHRM Northeast Regional Student Conference and HRGames, sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
"Career GPS: Navigating My Future" is open to all SHRM student members in the Northeast. The conference is designed to enhance educational opportunities for college and university students. The conference will begin with a keynote session with Steve Miranda, Chief Human Resource and Strategic Planning Officer for SHRM.
Other programs include "New Technology: What Will It Take to Be a Successful HR Executive in 2010?"; "From Backpack to Briefcase," a case study competition in which students apply their learning in real-life business situations; "Jump Start Your Career" sessions; on-site help with résumé writing; and the HRGames, a "Jeopardy-style" competition with similar categories to those used in the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exams.
The winning team members of HRGames will each receive a plaque, a $500 scholarship and a paid registration for the 2007 SHRM Annual Conference in Las Vegas in June. Sponsors for the 2007 SHRM Northeast Regional Student Conference and HRGames are IBM, Augur Inc., and Right Management.
Registration for the event is free for SHRM student members and professional chapter volunteers. Each individual attending must complete an individual conference registration form online. HRGames student teams and volunteers must also complete a registration form online.
Sponsorships of prizes are being sought from members of the business community. Items may include, but are not limited to, tote bags, meals and anything that can be placed inside the tote bags. All offers will be considered.
The SHRM Northeast Regional Conference will culminate with an awards banquet, which will include food and live entertainment provided by an HR Comedy Troupe.

Young Professionals, Forty and Under, a committee of the Lakewood Chamber and a support group for professionals and college graduates in Ocean, Monmouth, and Middlesex counties, will hold its monthly meeting at 507 Main Bar and Grill, 507 Main Street, Belmar, March 28, from 6-8:30 p.m. In his talk, "Moving Up the Entrepreneurial Ladder," Ed Kozemchak of ActionCOACH Business Coaching, Spring Lake, will suggest actions young professionals could take to move from one level to the next in their careers, and the steps entrepreneurs might expect to take over the course of their professional careers.

The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce invites members of the business community who work from their homes to join them for a special presentation, "Creating The Business That You Really Want!"
Dr. Daniel Cruoglio, of First Choice Health Group, will teach attendees how to control emotions, how to deal with fears that often inhibit success, and the power of the law of attraction. The event will be held March 16 at 8:30 a.m. in the chamber offices. Admission is free for Brick Township Chamber of Commerce members and $10 for non-members. Reservations are necessary.
