Sports Shorts

The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will be conducting golf lessons. Bring a 7 iron and 9 iron to the first class. Classroom discussion will be held on rain days in the Beach Complex Building. Lessons will be conducted Saturdays, April 7-28, at the Golf Driving Range in Ocean County Park. The classes are 8-9 a.m. and 9:15-10:15 am.

The fee for each player will be $36 and all the activities will be available for ages of 16 and up.

Erica Picatagi is a 2006 graduate of Brick Memorial High School and current freshman swimmer for Susquehanna University (SU), in Selinsgrove, Pa. Picatagi is a four-year varsity letter-winner and former co-captain for coach Todd Estelle at Memorial. She graduated as the holder of two school records. She is now studying communications and public relations at SU.

In a recent meet at Widener University, Picatagi dropped two seconds off her best time in the backstroke to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MAC) Swimming Championships. She will compete in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Feb. 9-12 in the championship meet.

"Erica has a bright future at Susquehanna University swimming," said head coach Ged Schweikert.

Brick Pop Warner Dragons football, cheer and cheer/dance will be holding signups for the 2007 season on March 21 and 22, and March 28 and 29 for all players, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Drum Point School Cafeteria. Please bring a recent photo of your child, an original and copy of your child's birth certificate, and an $85 registration fee for new players a $75 registration fee for returning players, or a $30 registration fee for flag football.

The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring a Learn to Bowl program. The program serves as an introduction to bowling and on the lanes practice. It will be conducted on Fridays, March 9 to March 30 at the Brunswick Lakewood Lanes on Route 9 and 70 in Lakewood from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The fee for each player is $10. This is program No. 413094-1A.

This class is for participants who have never taken a Learn to Bowl class.
