Brick needs a mountain to build on, reader says

Three months are all that remain before Brick has a new mayor. I'm sure that after the voters have made their choice, Steve Acropolis will finally become our leader. Make book on it.

The catcalls and negative articles are already in the papers but are they telling it like it should be? Traders Cove seems to be a strong issue that the democrats are harping about but are they telling the truth or is it just political fiction? It was Joe Scarpelli who wanted it to go to a developer, (his bread and butter) and we know where he's going.

I read a letter posted a week or so ago that printed a laundry list of complaints. In my rebuttal to this person the thought came to me that he sounded so much like a former councilman although the name was different. Do you think this letter was penned by somebody else, a democrat? Strike two.

Last week the public was informed about the possible purchase of the Ice Rink. Brick Council President Steve Acropolis, gave a concise report at the July 24 council meeting concerning the reasons for this this purchase under consideration, giving both pros and cons in his talk.

The next day we read about the "Acropolis Ice Palace," and how it would benefit Steve. Strike three. This is pure political nonsense. The reasons for buying this property are numerous and can lead to a lowering of costs here in Brick. Accordingly, the writer did not mention this. Was he a democrat?

The recent article in the July 30 Asbury Park Press (Ice follies in Brick) stated that it was a backroom deal. I question where the writer of this wrongful editorial has been for the last 12 years or so? Twelve years is a long time to keep a supposed secret. This council is on a roll and the Dem's know it, so naturally they have to talk trash. This is typical of them. Scarpelli-ism has not abated itself yet. It's still there. It must cease to exist. We've had enough.

The same letter writer complained about the Rt. 70 traffic but he failed to mention that Scarpelli trumped the council, who had a traffic study convened, by initiating his own traffic committee. How'd he make out? It was a way of fooling the voters just before election time. The trouble with this was that he succeeded. Brick lost and he won by 184 votes. Sad day for all residents of Brick.

Where is Joe now? For these reasons and more, this is why the Democrats know they are in trouble here in Brick.

Streets, eyesores, reservoirs, school taxes and even the upcoming revaluation are issues that will somehow get attached to this council that is sitting now. Always remember that it probably is a political ploy trying to shift the blame over to the republican party who is now starting to make headway here in town.

Through the ages certain people were chastised for their beliefs both political and on the side of religion. A good example of this was called "Seward's Folly." William Henry Seward, who was the United States Secretary of State, 1861-1869 was criticized by most everyone for purchasing from Russia, the Alaskan Territory for the exorbitant price of about $7 million. There's probably a dwelling or two right here in Brick that costs that figure. How'd he do? Was it a good deal? I haven't heard of any politician wanting to sell it back to Russia.

Brick needs to be run and operated as though it were a business. Brick needs to be governed by someone who passes the test of honesty and sincerity. Lastly Brick needs a person to become the cornerstone or foundation if it is to continue on its path to prosperity and serving its inhabitants.

When the ancient Greeks were prosperous, they constructed a temple named the Parthenon and located a perfect mountain in which to build it on. The name of this mountain is called the Acropolis. What better person do we have living here in the township that I love, than one who defines the above traits of honesty, sincerity and prosperity than Brick Councilman Steve Acropolis. Steve is needed to move us into the 21st century.

Brick needs Steve to be our foundation or mountain from which we can proceed to becoming a truly good example of Brick pride, free from all sinister evils of political temptation. Remember this in the voting booth. Haven't we learned enough about past administrations?

Lastly, I am a registered republican but vote and think as an independent.
