Brick Memorial falls to Jackson in wrestling

Brick Memorial's reign as the No. 1 high school wrestling team in the state was shortlived as nemesis Jackson pulled out a convincing 40-28 victory on Dec. 22.

Chris Giannos got the best victory of the night for theMustangs when he pinned his opponent after cutting weight to 145 pounds.

Jackson's Josh Baker at 135 pounds upset Karon Reid, the No. 3 finisher in the state championships at 130 pounds last March, swung the momentum heavily to Jackson's favor. Many other matches after that were decided by forfeits as both coaches maneuvered their lineups.

BrickMemorial coach Dan O'Cone, who pointed out that his team needed to raise its intensity before the big match, prepared his team to bounce back in its own Mustang Invitational over the weekend that hosted some of the top teams in the state.
