      Brick high schools prepare to square off against each other
      Hoops teams will play Friday night with playoff implications
            Brick Township's girls basketball team and Brick Memorial's boys basketball team both are contending for berths in the NJSIAA Tournament and face a familiar hurdle to get there in Friday night games - the school on the other side of town.

      Area fishing gets hot during coldest months
            The action this week has been red hot. The Garden State is producing some of the best winter fishing in years.With water temperatures staying steady offshore, party boats are filling coolers with a mixed bounty of fish. The Jamaica II from Brielle did just that. Capt. Steve and Capt. Ryan fished another solid week on their 12-hour offshore wreck trips.

            Brick Township'swrestling teamsoared into the Shore Conference Tournament yesterday off a sweep of a quad meet on Saturday and high hopes of holding onto itsNo. 1 berth in theNJSIAAGroup III Central Jersey bracket. That cutoff is on Saturday when the Green Dragons, who are 9-5, host a quadrangular with Manalapan, Monsignor Donovan and Barnegat.

      Bowling squads participate in doubles action
            Brick Township finished second to Manchester in the Lakewood High Scotch Doubles Tournament on Saturday at Ocean Lanes. D'Anna Farmer and Jay Lane on one team, Nicole Nadiello and Travis Breitenbruck on another, and Katarina Kiseli and Terry McMahon on the third team, all ignited Brick Township.

      High school hockey teams trying to make state tourney
      Auriemma nets 600th career victory
            It could be one of the few times in recent years that both Brick high school hockey teams are headed to the state tournament. Brick Township moved closer early last week with a 9-0 blitz of Jackson to raise its record to 8-4-1, a victory that got coach Bob Auriemma his 600th career win.

      Team caps first perfect season since 2002
            The number 13 was not an unlucky one for Paul Panuska and the Lake Riviera wrestling team. That's how many matches it took for the team to nail down its first unbeaten season since 2002 and a repeat Ocean County Middle Schools championship.

            Andrew Brodeur of Brick Memorial High School is looking for big things in the 1,600-meter run at the Shore Conference indoor track and field championship meet this weekend at the John Bennett Complex in Toms River, but nationally regarded shot-putter DeAnne Hahn will be sitting it out.
