Traders Cove plan makes fiscal sense, reader says Ireally don't know what the Save the Barnegat Bay people andWillieDeCampwant this time. After years of fighting the former administration, Mayor Steve Acropolis and the Brick Township Council succeeded in stopping a multimillion-dollar luxury condominium project from being placed on the shores where the Traders Cove Marina once stood. That meant that the township would forever protect a portion of that land for use by the Brick Township taxpayer while simultaneously finding new and innovative uses for the property. Acropolis and the council have done exactly that. They found a way to provide a park with access to the water for taxpayers, create a beautiful maritime museum and also allow a private developer to install boat slips, (yes from which he would make profit, just like we all do in America) thereby eliminating a significant cost burden from the taxpayer for the property. And Mr. DeCamp and his gang want to significantly reduce the number of available slips, thereby causing the taxpayers of Brick Township to take a multimillion-dollar financial hit now and into the future as they have to pay for the reduction that would result if Mr. DeCamp were successful. The public wants access to the water, and this is a good thing. The public also doesn't want to pay exorbitant amounts of money for the access. Acropolis and the council have fashioned a sensible, fiscally conservative solution to the problem and rather than being sued, they should be congratulated. James Donnelly Brick |
