Nydam's sentence not harsh enough for crimes

What is wrong with the idea of requiring that convicted public officials repay the taxpayers for property and money they stole from the taxpayers?

Why hasn't Jack Nydam, the disgraced [former] Brick Township public works director recently sentenced for crimes involving the theft and sale of township property and acceptance of bribes, been required to make restitution to the people of Brick?

The only punishment meted out to Nydam was five years' probation. No fines, no penalties, no jail!

The reason given for this by the N.J. Attorney General's Office is Nydam cooperated with the state after he had been caught red-handed and then turned informer on former Mayor Joseph Scarpelli.

The difference is that Scarpelli is deservedly sent to jail, forfeits his pension and has to make restitution of pension money he had already been paid. Meanwhile, Jack Nydam is free to go his merry way with the bribe money and the money from the theft and sale of township property jingling in his pockets.

This is Jersey justice? Something is wrong!
