Time for some new faces on Board of Education

The governor of the state wants to decrease spending and now I think it is time for Brick schools to do the same.

They are threatening to close schools here but are doing nothing to cut costs. Our test scores are down and now the children have the option to switch schools so they can achieve better scores. They are putting a card access system in, but are complaining about no funds. We put on a huge addition to Brick Memorial High School and our enrollment is way down.

And whoever had that idea forgot to expand the parking lot for the increase in students and then dumped the parking problem on the surrounding residents of both high schools.

They have four principals in the middle schools. They have assistant principals in the grammar schools. I say we let the principal of the middle schools earn the $100,000 plus salary and run the whole thing. And let the principals of the grammar schools run their schools. If they are not already in place, bring in step guides for the custodians. Anyone coming in the door after a certain date earns a lower salary. If they are there longer, they move up the scale each year. Offer a buyout to those who are close to retirement.

The Board of Education wants the citizens of this town to go to Trenton and cry to the state instead of sitting down and finding a way to cut spending and not close the projected schools.

Maybe it's time the citizens from Brick really do something about the people who are on the Board of Education, and that would be to vote all of them off the board and bring in new faces - ones who really care for our kids and their learning, because the scores our students have just don't cut it.

We have money to pay for a temporary superintendent, but we don't have money to keep our schools open. Something is very wrong with this picture and it's the people of Brick who need to do something about it. Maybe we need to ask the state to come in and take over our schools and clean up our system and get it back on track.
