Rutgers women's basketball saw its five incoming freshmen land on the first three squads. April Sykes (Crawford,Miss.)was named to the first teamafter averaging 25.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists for East Oktibbeha High School this past season.

      Pearce basks in BC hockey glory
            For Brick native Joe Pearce, it's the next best excitement to actually being on the ice. The former Brick Township standout goaliewas the backup before finishing his eligibility last season for Boston College, which on April 12 knocked off Notre Dame, 4-1, for its secondNCAATournament championship. The other win came in 2001.

            State champion Jesse Lyon in the intermediate heavyweight division and runner up Dean Sherry in the 80-pound midget division led a group of eightwrestlers out of the Brick Recreation Mat Rats programwhowere state place-winners this year in competitions held earlier this month.
